Class A CDL Entry Level Driver Training Theory Course

As of February 2022, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that anyone seeking a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in any state must complete an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory course that meets minimum standards.

Our Class A CDL theory course is provided by the American Safety Institute (ASI).  It is a federally mandated requirement ELDT Course in a online self-paced, enjoyable format.  It can be accessed anywhere, on any device, with an internet connection.

Upon completion, American Safety Institute will submit proof of your course completion to FMCSA (US-DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).  You can take the ELDT behind-the-wheel training from an approved provider in your area.

Steps to Getting your CDL License

Step 1 - Enroll in our Class A CDL ELDT Course

Step 2 - Complete your CDL Theory Course.  When you finish, we provide proof of completion to FMCSA (reported electronically)

Step 3 - Use our Resources below to locate your state's DMV website and learn how to obtain your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP)

Step 4 - Register with an approved Behind-the-Wheel Training Provider and successfully compete all training

Step 5 - Apply for your CDL.  Contact your State's DMV to confirm that you have obtained all required documentation


Our Class A CDL Course

CDL Course Student on PCThe online CDL Class A Theory Course is a 6 hour class and consists of 5 chapters.  We are an approved FMCSA course and training provider for the theory portion of the ELDT course.  This course is approved in all States and you do not need your CDL Learner’s Permit before taking our ELDT theory course.

The course is available 24/7 on any device connected to the internet.  You can log on and off the course at any time.  The course will save your progress where you last left off.  Our course is mobile friendly.  You can connect using a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet or a cell phone.  Once enrolled, you can connect via any device from different locations.
